Apart from making gratitude exercise a habit, you have the option to structure the habit any way you prefer and any way that serves you best.

A few powerful ways you can cultivate gratitude into your day include:

Gratitude Affirmations

Each morning when you wake up and each night before you sleep, say “I am grateful for ____” at least 5 times. 

Fill in the blank with something different each time. You don’t need to focus on anything big. 

Just anything and everything (or anyone) that brings you genuine appreciation and happiness during that time. 

Examples include a delicious meal, great health, the weather, a pet, something that made you laugh, and so on. Anything that will inspire you to be grateful is fair game.

Gratitude Journaling 

If you prefer writing things down, you can also do the exercise in written form. 

One benefit of this approach would be to look back through your journal anytime and reconnect with things that make you feel grateful. 

This is a powerful technique especially in times of adversity. 

You can list down at list 5 things daily and 10 if you are feeling ambitious. If you can only dedicate a short amount of time to the exercise, it would be best to stick with 5.

Gratitude Expressions 

This specific exercise is compatible with journaling and affirmations. 

In addition, it also allows you to spread positivity to others. 

All you need to do is look for at least 2 people you can express gratitude to. 

This can be as big as thanking someone about their unconditional support or as small as thanking a stranger for opening the doors for you.
