This article is going to cover why affirmations usually don’t work, when to use positive affirmations, how to use affirmations, and then give you a list of powerful affirmations to use.
Affirmations are the process of repeating the statements of positive thoughts that are intended to help a person to raise their vibration or otherwise stated, simply to feel better. The idea with affirmations is that when you repeat positive thoughts silently or out loud to yourself, then you will help yourself to feel better or to raise your vibration. Practicing affirmations should be a daily occurence for you, but you have to know when is the right time.
There are some things that you must know in order to get the most out of using affirmations and repeating the statements from your affirmation list. There are times when it’s not a good idea to try to do affirmations at all. And there are times when it is a good idea. Knowing when and when not to use them is key to using them effectively.
Why Positive Affirmations Usually Don’t Work
From the Law of Attraction perspective, there are times when you do not want to try to use affirmations. For the most part, the wrong time to try to use affirmations is when you’re feeling really down and out. When you are not even close to feeling good, it’s better to do things like take a nap, take a walk, call a friend, listen to some music, workout – anything to get your mind off of things.
In other words if you’re feeling down, depressed and sad, it’s not going to do you any good to try to say super positive affirmations. It’s too hard to suddenly jump from being depressed to feeling wonderful. It’s counter-productive and may make you feel even worse.
Best Time To Say Positive Affirmations
So, when is the best time to say positive affirmations? You want to say affirmations when you are vibrationally relatively close to the affirmation. In other words, when you are already feeling like the affirmation is true for you or at least that you are close to it.
For example, if your positive affirmation is “I am good enough,” you want to say that when you are already almost feeling like you are good enough. You don’t want to say it when you’re feeling bad about yourself because it could backfire on you and just make you feel worse.
Repeating the statements of an affirmation when you’re not feeling good about yourself doesn’t work.
How to Use Affirmations Correctly
Usually, the best time to use affirmations is in the morning. You don’t want to try to use affirmations just after an upsetting event. Instead, do it when you’re already feeling good as we have discussed.
Every statement has a vibrational frequency to it. Positive affirmations can vary in frequency. For example, saying the affirmation “Everything is going to be okay,” is lower than the positive affirmation of “I deeply and completely love myself.” But if you’re not feeling good, then saying “Everything is gong to be okay” will help you to feel better than saying “I love myself.”
So the best way to use affirmations is to figure out how you are feeling right now and you find a positive affirmation that is slightly higher than how you feel. For example, if you are feeling a little bit disappointed because of something that happened during the day, the correct affirmation to say based upon your current state of vibration would be something like,
“Everything is going to be okay.”
“I’m going to figure this out.”
“I’ve always figured this out before.
“Things always seem to have a way of working themselves out.”
Can you see how these vibrational statements are not very high, but honor where you are right now? If you have had a bad day, saying something like “life is wonderful!”, “life is fantastic!”, “life is blissful!” is not going to feel good to you. It’s going to feel inauthentic. It’s going to feel like you’re lying to yourself. And that’s where the problem is.
It takes a little bit more time to figure out where you are and then find the correct positive affirmation to say, but it’s definitely worth the time it takes to figure it out. It’s actually not difficult to figure it out when you get used to practicing affirmations and repeating statements over and over. Using affirmations when the timing feels right and matching an affirmation to how you feel in the moment is the best way to go.
Make Yourself Feel Better Using Affirmations
Here is a list of positive affirmations that you can say, which go from a lower vibrational feeling to higher and higher. That is the best way to state your affirmations. Figure out where you are, and then talk yourself into a better and better feeling place.
In this example, we are going to start off as if you had a bad day and you want to go ahead and try to do affirmations anyway. Although it might be best to just simply wait until a different time, if you start off your affirmation at the right place, it’s okay. You can work your way up the emotional scale.
So, let’s say that you had a bad day at work, you come home and you really want to coach yourself into a better feeling place.

Another way you could do this is to take this list, figure out where you are on that list and repeating the statements from there. Another option is you could create your own list of positive affirmations that feel good to you.
When you gradually work your way up the emotional scale, then and only then will the affirmations work for you.
The reason why affirmations do not work for most people is because they do not understand that you have to start with where you feel right now, in the moment. But once you understand how this works, then you can figure out where you are, find an affirmation that matches where you are and then say better and better feeling affirmations.
It’s not rocket science. But it’s amazing how many coaches and teachers do not know this. Now that you do, your affirmations will be much more effective.
